BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Today, Bowling Green Mayor Todd Alcott welcomed more than 30 Greenwood High School international students to City Hall.
The students are originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Russia, Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, Mexico, Myanmar and El Salvador. All have been in the United States less than two years.
Mayor Alcott gave the students a tour of the building explaining the building’s age, usage, the naming of The Denning Commons, and a quick tutorial on how city government works and encouraged the students to continue their education.
“I got the chance to serve in the United States military for 21 years. I love to lead. I love to serve,” Alcott said to the group. “I love to see that light bulb go off when you get things done for your community. I get to serve the home where I grew up. I get to serve Bowling Green.”
Alcott then invited the students to sit in the Board of Commissioners’ chairs and bang the mayor’s gavel.
The students also visited the City police department.
They toured the police department, learned about policing and were encouraged to someday join the department.
