Rep. James Comer, U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 1st district since 2016, announced via social media that the House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to several high-profile former officials, including Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton.
On August 5, 2025, Comer posted: “BREAKING The House Oversight Committee is compelling the following individuals to appear for depositions through issued subpoenas: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: October 9 Former President Bill Clinton: October 14 Former U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland:”.
Later that day, Comer reiterated his commitment to government transparency in another post: “Like President Trump, House Oversight Republicans are committed to ensuring the federal government is transparent and accountable to the American people. Joining @IngrahamAngle on @FoxNews tonight at 7:30pET to discuss the subpoenas we issued today. Tune in!” (August 5, 2025).
On August 6, Comer provided further details regarding bipartisan support for these actions: “Democrats and Republicans on the House Oversight Committee voted by voice and unanimously agreed to issue subpoenas to Bill & Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, Robert Mueller, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, & Alberto Gonzales.”
The decision follows a unanimous voice vote by both Democrats and Republicans on the committee to compel testimony from a range of former senior government officials.

Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2001 to 2012. Born in Carthage, Tennessee in 1972 and currently residing in Tompkinsville at age 50, Comer graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1993.
