The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets is continuing its investigation into Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) and federal government transparency, according to an April 1 announcement. Task Force Chairwoman Anna Paulina Luna has sent a letter to Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth requesting video files related to UAP sightings.

The ongoing investigation addresses the lack of disclosure regarding UAPs, which some officials believe may pose security threats near sensitive military areas. The issue is considered important as it involves potential risks to national security and the readiness of armed forces.

Luna wrote in her letter, “On September 9, 2025, the Task Force held a hearing focused on [UAP concerns.] Whistleblowers informed the Task Force that AARO [All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office] possesses additional video records of potential UAP sightings. To continue its investigation, the Task Force requests certain video files related to UAP sightings.”

During its September hearing, the task force discussed ongoing concerns about disclosure practices for information related to UAPs held by federal agencies. Members also examined issues with transparency within both the Department of War and intelligence community as part of a broader review into how effectively AARO fulfills its congressional mandate.

Luna concluded in her statement: “The lack of disclosure regarding the very real threat posed by UAPs in and around U.S. restricted airspace is concerning. The Task Force has found responses from AARO, when questioned about UAP sightings and provided data, less than adequate. The presence of UAPs in and around the sensitive airspaces of U.S. military installations poses a threat to the security of the armed forces and their readiness.”

The committee’s work will continue as it seeks further documentation from relevant agencies.
